The Varsity Blues women's soccer team lost 3-2 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday (Sept. 8) evening at Varsity Stadium
Â
It was a quiet first half on the goal sheet for the Blues and Gee-Gee, with the two teams trading chances throughout. But neither team were able to get past U of T goalie, Julianna Ottoni, and Gee-Gees goalie, Cassidy Joslin.
Â
Ottoni finished the game with three saves through the 90 minutes.Â
Â
Cassandra Provost broke the deadlock early in the second half, opening the scoring for Gee-Gees. Provost added another goal later in the half. Gabrielle Ferland added a goal of her own to seal the deal for the Gee-Gees.Â
Â
Hannah Chown capitalized on her chance from the penalty spot midway through the second half to open the scoring for the Blues. The veteran defender led the Blues with two shots on goal, along with rookie Samantha Gravina who also had two.Â
Â
Gravina added a goal of her own, her first in the OUA, in the final minute of the game to bring the Blues within one.Â
Â
The Blues hit the pitch once again on Sunday, September 10 when they play the Nipissing Lakers at Varsity Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. Tickets are availableÂ
