ROOKIE REEVES SCORES IN VICTORY AGAINST LAURIER

The Varsity Blues men's hockey team won 4-2 against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday (Sept. 22) night at Varsity Arena.

Third-year captain, Cole Purboo, opened the scoring with a goal on Golden Hawks goaltender, Christian Propp, to give the Blues an early lead. Graham Dickerson, second-year forward, carried this momentum with a goal a couple minutes later.

Early into the second period, the Golden Hawks responded with their first goal of the game from Sam Rhodes on the power play. However, rookie Aiden Reeves was quick to grab the puck in the offensive zone and buried his shot in the back of the net.

Rhodes grabbed his second of the game for the Golden Hawks to wrap up the scoring for Laurier late in the second period.

Forward Nicholas Wong set third-year defenseman Ben Dirven up for the Blues' safety goal, securing the 4-2 win at their home arena.

Blues goalie Jordan Fairlie recorded 33 saves through the 60 minutes.

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow night (Sept. 23), against Ontario in Oshawa Ont. for a 3:00 p.m. puck drop.
