The Varsity Blues women's soccer team lost 2-0 to the Queen's Gaels in their 2023 OUA season opener on Thursday (Aug. 31) evening in Kingston, Ont.
 
Defence was the name of the game for the Blues in the first half, with veteran defender Hannah Chown making crucial defensive plays throughout the half. Blues rookie goalie Juliana Ottoni made four saves through the 90 minutes, coming up with three clutch saves in the first half. 
 
The Gaels scored their first goal at the tail end of the first half when Leda Naihin converted from the penalty spot. Mattson Strickler added the Gaels second goal of the game in the final seconds of the second half. 
 
The Blues return to action on Sunday, September 3 when they head to the nation's capital to face off against the Carleton Ravens. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
