BLUES FALL IN NARROW CONTEST VS. NO. 5 BADGERS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team fell to the No. 5 Brock Badgers 72-70 on Friday (Feb. 3) night at the Goldring Centre for High-Performance Sport.

The Blues now hold a 12-8 record on the season, falling to fourth place in the OUA Central division.

TORONTO STATS: For the third-straight game, third-year standout Callum Baker led the Blues with 21 points. The Oakville, Ont. native added seven rebounds two steals and two assists.

Rookie Ryan Rudnick recorded 11 points off the bench while adding six rebounds, one assists and one block.

Third-year guard Inaki Alvarez and second-year guard Aleer Aleer-Leek both tallied 10 points in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Trading the lead throughout the early portion of the first quarter, it was clear that there was little to separate the Blues and Badgers. Despite running into foul trouble and giving up six free throws, the Badgers would hold off the Blues with a narrow 23-20 lead.

The two sides would battle well into the second quarter, where the Badgers would then find their footing resulting in a 45-38 lead at the half.

In the third quarter the Blues would battle back to shrink the Badgers lead to four (54-51). Ultimately taking the lead from the Badgers with just 2:53 remaining in play.

Unfortunately, the Badger would comeback in those final three minutes and win the game by a score of 72-70.

UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to the court on Friday, February 10 when they face off against the McMaster Marauders at the Goldring Centre for High-Performance Sport. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
