The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell to the Waterloo Warriors 61-51 on Saturday (Feb. 11) night at the Goldring Centre for High-Performance Sport.
The Blues now hold a 4-17 record on the season, remaining in fifth place in the OUA Central division.
TORONTO STATS: In their final home as Varsity Blues, veteran guards Lauren Boers and Ellen Ougrinov led Toronto with 18 and 15 points respectively. Ougrinov particularly shined adding four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Under the basket, second-year forward Sabrina Nero was dominant, securing nine rebounds for the second-straight night.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After being down 7-3 with just six minutes left to play in the first quarter, the Blues rallied back to take a 14-12 lead. However, with seven seconds remaining the Warriors would find the quarter-tying basket (14-14).
Despite a slow start in the second quarter, a late surge from the Warriors would find the Blues down 31-21 at the half.
Following the momentum switch of the second quarter, the Warriors would extend their lead through the third (48-34) and ultimately win the game 61-51.
UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues will play their final game of the 2022-23 season on Saturday, February 18 when they face off against the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
