The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell to the McMaster Marauders 93-74 on Saturday (Feb. 18) night in Hamilton.
The Blues finish the 2022-23 season with a 4-18 record, good for fifth place in the OUA Central division.
TORONTO STATS: The Blues were led by second-year guard Jada Poon-Tip and first-year guard Soroya Jovin who both recorded 13 points from the bench.
In their final game as Varsity Blues, forward Thuraya Abdul-Hamid and guard Ellen Ougrinov recorded 12 and 11 points respectively. Ougrinov added four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Defensively, second-year guard Gabby Reed was a bright spot, securing eight rebounds and three steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Despite a close opening to the first quarter, the Marauders pulled away to a lead of 27-22 by the second and extended that lead to 57-44 by the half.
The Blues battled back in the third-quarter outscoring the Marauders 18-16, but were still down by the end of the quarter (73-62).
The Marauders ultimately bested the Blues by a score of 93-74.
