The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell to the No. 8 McMaster Marauders 88-57 on Friday (Feb. 10) night at the Goldring Centre for High-Performance Sport.
The Blues now hold a 4-16 record on the season, remaining in fifth place in the OUA Central division.
TORONTO STATS: Veteran guard Ellen Ougrinov led the Blues with 17 points, three steals, three rebounds and an assist.
First-year guard Soraya Jovin scored a career-high 11 points off the bench, while fellow guard Lauren Boers recorded 7 points, three rebounds and an assist.
Second-year forward Sabrina Nero was dominant under the basket, securing nine rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After a strong defensive performance highlighted by Ougrinov and Gabby Reed, the Blues led the Marauders 24-20 at the end of the first.
Despite the Blues efforts, the Marauders would crawl into a 42-30 lead by the half and extended that lead in the third (63-45).
The Marauders would ultimately best the Blues by a score of 88-57.
UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues are back at it tomorrow Saturday, February 11 when they face off against the Waterloo Warriors at the Goldring Centre for High-Performance Sport. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
