The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team sealed a 68-53 win over the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday (Dec. 2) evening at the Goldring Centre Kimel Family Field House.
In their second win of their 2023-24 OUA campaign, the Blues were dominant in all frames holding the lead for 98.2% of the game. Starting strong, the Blues came out to an early 17-13 lead and held 31-28 lead heading into the half. Holding the Thunderwolves to a combined 25 points through the second half, the Blues finished the night with a 15-point lead.
Leading the Blues was once again fifth-year guard Ellen Ougrinov. Ougrinov recorded a game-high 21 points and added seven assists and three steals. Along with Ougrinov, rookie guard Raya Hafez had a standout night securing 14 points shooting 54.5% from the field. Rounding out the Blues double-digit scorers was Sabrina Nero. The Vaughan, Ont. native tallied 11 points in the win and added three blocks.
Meanwhile in the paint, the Blues continued to dominate. Third-year Gabby Reed led all players with 13 rebounds, while Ougrinov added seven of her own.
For the second-straight night Ally Burke led the Thunderwolves, recording 19 points through 38 minutes of play.
U of T will break for 2023, before continuing their home stand on Thursday, January 4 when they take on the Guelph Gryphons. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. Tickets for home games are available at
