TORONTO OPENS SEASON AGAINST BADGERS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell to the Brock Badgers 79-69 in their first game of the season on Friday (Nov. 3) night in St. Catharines, Ontario.

In the first quarter, the Blues were led by Charlotte Church and Raya Hafez, who recorded nine and six points respectively, all points coming from behind the three-point arc. After the first, the Blues trailed 29-18. Hafez opened the scoring for the Blues right off the bat in the second quarter, nailing her third three-pointer of the night, but with the Badgers pushing back they would lead 52-34 at the half. Ougrinov and Hafez finished the game with 20 and 15 points, respectively.

In the third quarter, the Blues came out to play, completely closing the gap to the Badgers, tying the game up at 60-60. Gabrielle Reed had a huge quarter for the Blues, recording 12 of her 14 points and shooting 5-for-6 from the field. Despite their best efforts, the Blues ultimately fell 79-69 to the Badgers.

Next up, the Blues will make their way back home to face off against the McMaster Marauders for their home opener on Saturday, November 4. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m., with tickets available online at varsityblues.ca/tickets. The game will also be streamed online via oua tv.
