The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team won against the Laurentian Voyageurs 2-0 on Saturday (Oct.7) afternoon at Varsity Stadium.
With the victory, the Blues now sit in sixth place in the OUA East division, trailing fifth place by just one point.
Through the first half of the match, it was a battle of offensive pressure for the Blues as they tallied seven shots in the opening half. However, U of T were unable to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of action.
Following the halftime break, third-year defender Cassie Chan recorded the first goal of the match in the 49
th minute converting a short pass from Anne Yeomans from in tight to the Lakers net to put the Blues on the board.
Just 10 minutes later, the Blues added another as captain Hannah Chown showcased once again how clinical she has been all season long, converting a long free kick for a goal in the 61
st minute.
The Blues defence was also outstanding in the match, conceding just two shots on goal throughout the entirety of the 90 minutes. First-year goalkeeper Maria Godoy-Atrash recorded her second shutout of the season and finished the game with two saves.
The Blues kick off their road games next week when they travel to North Bay to face-off against the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday, October 14. Kick-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. The game will also be streamed live and on-demand via
