Continuing their preseason on the road, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team played in Montreal this weekend to participate in the annual Concordia Classic Tournament.
The Blues played their first game of the tournament on Thursday, Oct. 5 versus the host Concordia Stingers, falling by a final score of 53-49. Ellen Ougrinov shined for Toronto in the closely contest opener, leading the team with 18 points and five assists.
The next day (Oct. 6), Toronto faced off against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and won the game 70-67. Raya Hafez paced the Blues offence scoring a game-high 19 points, followed by another strong outing from Ougrinov who added 18 points, five rebounds and five assists.
On the final day of competition (Oct. 7), the Blues defeated the UNBC Timberwolves 63-53. Thuraya Abdul Hamid scored 18 points, while pulling down eight rebounds. Dominating the paint, Sabrina Nero grabbed a game-high of 18 rebounds for Toronto. Ougrinov, who was named a tournament all-star, rounded out her weekend with another strong statline of 17 points, four rebounds and three assists.
The Blues will next host the Windsor Lancers at the Goldring Centre on Wednesday, Oct. 11, Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with tickets available online atÂ
