Looking to make their way back to the OUA championship final, the No. 2 ranked Varsity Blues women's tennis team beat the No. 3 McMaster Marauders 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues started off strong, sweeping the doubles matches, starting with an 8-4 win from the top duo of Anastasiya Dyadchenko and Maria Popova. That win was followed up with a commanding 8-2 win from Noelle Vanessa-Wilbert and Felina Wang, and an 8-1 win from Mia Wong and Janet Pham.
In singles play, Dyadchenko kept her unbeaten streak alive with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. The Blue and White then racked up three straight wins from Noelle Vanessa-Wilbert (6-1, 6-1), Felina Yang (6-2, 6-2) and Mia Wong (8-1) to secure the victory for the Blues. After a win in doubles, Maria Popova dropped her singles matchup 6-4, 6-4 to Scarlett Wong. In the six-slot, Carmen Nahat fell 8-4 to Sarah Rubenstein.
With the win, the Blues look to win their third OUA title in four years when they face off against the Waterloo Warriors. First serve for the Blues in the Sunday matchup is scheduled for 11 a.m. at MayFair Toronto East.
