Box Score 2 This past weekend the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team attended the Athlete Women Empowered Classic hosted at York University.
The Blues fell to Trinity Western in their first game on Friday, Oct. 20 by a final score of 73-52. On day 2, the Blues faced off against the Concordia Stingers, and although they had a strong start, fell to the Stingers 61-47. In their second game, Ellen Ougrinov and Charlotte Church lead the team, each scoring nine and eight points, respectively.
The Athlete Women Empowered Tournament is a tournament led by the only four black women coaching in university basketball in Canada, including the Blues very own Tamara Tatham. The tournament not only allows teams to compete in friendly play, but also is meant to help recognize those former student-athletes turned coaches who have helped pave the way for women in sports.
The Blues will next be off to St. Catharines, ON to face the Brock Badgers on Friday, November 3 in their first game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed live and on-demand viaÂ
