BLUES DROP CONTEST TO GAELS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team fell 4-1 to the Queen's Gaels on Sunday (Oct. 1) afternoon at Varsity Stadium.

Both teams came out hot, trading shots back-and-forth throughout the first half. Blues forward Andrea Schifano scored the first goal of the game with a strike into the bottom-right corner of the goal in the 13th minute.

Closing in at the end of the first half, Matthew Ciavarro, of the Queen's Gaels, evened out the score. He was then followed by his teammate Andrea Gortana who scored the second goal for the Gaels, a minute later, leaving the Blues trailing by one at the end of the first.

The fast-paced game continued into the second half with the teams battling hard. Ciavarro made it past the U of T backline, for his second of the game, extending the Gaels lead to 3-1.

Pablo Hempelmann-Perez added an insurance marker for Queen's in the final minute of play.

The Varsity Blues will be back at home on Thursday, October 5 at 8:30 pm to battle Ontario Tech. Tickets for the contest are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets, while the game will also be streamed live and on-demand via oua.tv.
