BLUES SWEEP SEASON SERIES AGAINST LIONS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team edged out the York Lions 93-72 on Wednesday (Jan. 4) night at the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

TORONTO STATS: Third-year guard Callum Baker led the way for the Blues with a game-high 31 points, five assists and three rebounds. Iñaki Alvarez finished the game with 19 points of his own.

Anthony Daudu registered six points and 16 rebounds, while Lennart Weber recorded 15 points and nine rebounds, one shy of a double-double.

HOW IT HAPPENED: A strong start from the Lions saw them take an early 8-1 lead, but that wouldn't as the Blues would go on an 18-2 run of their own, leaving them with a 19-15 lead after one. A 10-point quarter for Baker saw the Blues extend their lead to 41-30.

In the third, the Lions would make a push of their own cutting the Blues lead down to as little as five. Ultimately, the Blues would leave the third quarter with a 64-54 lead.

UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues head west on Saturday (Dec. 7) to face off against the Guelph Gryphons at the Guelph Gryphons Athletic Centre. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
