The University of Toronto Varsity Blues Men's Basketball team fell 98-85 to the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday (Jan. 20) night in their rematch at the Lakehead Athletic Centre.
They now have a 10-4 record for the season and continue to hold the top spot in the OUA Central division.
TORONTO STATS: The Blues were led by second-year forward Lennart Weber and third-year guard Callum Baker. Weber tallied a career high 19 points including three rebounds, one assist, and four steals, while Baker had 19 points on the evening along with two rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Third-year guard Iñaki Alvarez scored 18 points, along with four rebounds and seven assists. First-year forward Ryan Rudnick recorded 10 points on the night in addition to three rebounds two assists, and two steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Following last night's loss against the Thunderwolves, the Blues were primed for a rematch. In a close first quarter, the Blues finished five points behind the Thunderwolves 25-20. The Thunderwolves extended their lead in the second quarter leaving the Blues trailing 56-46. Even with the Blues' offensive efforts, the Thunderwolves continued to lead through second half of the game; with the third quarter finishing 76-54. Despite exceeding last night's point total and a career best performance from Weber, the Blues fell 98-85.
UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to the court on Friday, January 20th to face off against the Carleton University Ravens at home at the Goldring Centre Kimel Family Filed House. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
