Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

BLUES EDGED OUT BY THUNDERWOLVES IN TIGHT MATCHUP

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's Basketball team were defeated 71-69 by the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday (Jan. 13) night at the Lakehead Athletic Centre.

Despite the loss, the Blues remain first in the OUA Central division and have a 10-3 record.

TORONTO STATS: Third-year guard Callum Baker led the Blues with 19 points, three rebounds, and five assists. First-year forward Ryan Rudnick scored a personal best of 17 points against the Thunderwolves in addition to two rebounds, one assist, and three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED: A back-and-forth first quarter saw the Blues and Thunderwolves exchange leads throughout, but Lakehead would exit the quarter with a 20-19 lead. The Varsity Blues would push ahead in the second quarter with a 13-2 run, and found themselves with a 35-32 lead at the half. U of T continued to lead through the third quarter 54-50.

The Thunderwolves offence propelled them into the lead in the fourth quarter. After the Blues opened the quarter with two buckets, Lakehead would score eight straight points to cut into the Blues lead. Despite the Blues' effort and Rudnick's three straight three pointers late in the quarter, the Blues were ultimately bested by the Thunderwolves 71-69.

UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to the court on Saturday, January 14th to face off against the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Lakehead Athletic Centre. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
