A Karly Hellstrom goal led the Varsity Blues women's soccer team to a 2-1 over Carleton Ravens on Sunday (Sept. 25) afternoon at Varsity Stadium.
The Blues hold a 6-1 record with 18 points, and sit first in the OUA East division.
Despite outshooting the Ravens four to one in the first half, the Blues were unable to score. The Ravens opened the scoring late into the first half with a goal from forward Salena Devellis in the 37
th minute.
The Blues would tie the game late into the second half with a Hannah Chown penalty shot, after Chown was taken down in the box ('82). Hellstrom completed the comeback for the Blues in the 89
th minute, assisted by Amelia Thompson.
The Blues finished the game with 22 shots, with nine on target. Chown had a team high four shots on goal.
The Varsity Blues return to action Saturday, October 1st when they faceoff against the Queen's Gaels at Varsity Stadium. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
