TOP TEAMS CONVERGE IN MONTREAL FOR PRE-SEASON TOURNAMENT

Taking on some of the country's top teams over the weekend in Montreal, Que., the Varsity Blues were able to get in a trio of exhibition matches against strong competition.

The tournament, which featured six teams, five of which finished top-six in the final 2021-22 U SPORTS Top 10 rankings, ran from September 23-25.

Beginning their tournament on Friday against the Concordia Stingers, the Blues found themselves in a very tight contest but ultimately fell 2-1.

On Saturday, Toronto switched their focus to the Montreal Carabins, who began their tournament with a 1-0 win over the British Columbia Thunderbirds. The Carabins strong defence play continued against the Blues, as they defeated Toronto 4-0.

Wrapping up their tournament on Sunday, the Blues battled McGill in the five-six playoff game. In another close contest, the Blues came away with an overtime victory over McGill, winning 2-1.

Toronto will now return home for an exhibition game against the Laurier Golden Hawks on September 29 as they continue to prepare for their 2022-23 OUA regular season, which will begin on October 22.
