OVERTIME MAGIC EARNS BLUES VICTORY OVER GOLDEN HAWKS

A day after losing a close game at Brock, the Blues managed to pull out a gutsy 7-6 victory in overtime while visiting Laurier.

A dominant first quarter allowed the Blues to build a 3-1 lead on the strength of two goals from Aidan Guld and a single from Dylan Doucette. However, a last second goal in the first quarter by Laurier gave them the momentum they needed to even the score 3-3 heading into the half.

In a physical third quarter, Alex Acosta scored the only marker, giving Toronto the 4-3 lead heading into the fourth. It was the same score line from the exhibition game the two had played three weeks earlier.

After Laurier tied the game in the fourth, it appeared like Toronto was going to close out the game with the win. In the final minutes, Guld finished his hat trick and Doucette got his second of the game, giving the Blues a 6-4 lead with forty seconds remaining. However, Laurier managed to get within one off the ensuing face off, and then tie the game with 6 seconds remaining, sending the game into overtime.

Both goalies managed to make saves in overtime, including a highlight reel save from Blues goalie Macon Jeffreys with thirty seconds remaining in the extra frame. Ryan Clarke was able to pick up the loose ball and clear it to the offense. On the next set, Thomas Dunnet found himself alone in front, scoring the overtime winner on a pass from Davis Bottomley.

The Blues are at home twice next weekend with a rematch against Brock on Saturday and a game against McMaster on Sunday. Opening face off is 7:30 for both games.
