Box Score Behind six second-half goals, the Toronto Varsity Blues picked up their first win of the season, downing the McMaster Marauders 8-0 on Sunday at Back Campus Fields.
Playing their home-opener after starting their season with a 1-1 tie in London earlier in the week, the Blues wasted no time building a lead.
Just three minutes into the match, Emily Ziraldo scored for the Blues. Then, it was only a minute later when Sam McCrory extended the lead to 2-0.
For the remained of the opening half, the two teams played strong defence, and managed to keep each other's offence at bay.
Once the third quarter got underway, the Blues began to pull away.
Molly Koop and Ziraldo scored goals just two minutes apart, doubling the lead to 4-0. Then, in the 48
th minute, the Blues went up 5-0 on Koop's second goal of the game.
Toronto then finished the game off in style with three goals in a four-minute span, with McCrory scoring her second, Ziraldo her third, and Madeline Sherwood's first.
Now 1-0-1 to start the season, the Blues will prepare to host the York Lions on September 28 at 7:00 p.m.
