There was hardly anything to separate the Toronto Varsity Blues and the McMaster Marauders Saturday night as the Blues kicked off their 2022 OUA regular season at Varsity Stadium.
In a tightly contested contest, the Blues ultimately came up just one point short against the visitors from Hamilton, falling 13-12 to the Marauders.
After the Marauders scored first with a try in the 18th minute, the Blues responded just before the half with a try of their own in the 38th minute from GP Fortino.
In the 48th minute, McMaster would retake with the lead with a successful penalty goal to go up 10-7.
With the game entering the late stages, the Blues would up the pressure and break through for their first lead of the night. Scoring a 70th minute try, Matt Olsen put Toronto up 12-10.
Unfortunately for the home side though, a second penalty goal for McMaster, this one in 78th, would put the Marauders up 13-12, which wound up being the final score.
The Blues will now look to bounce back when they pay a visit to the Waterloo Warriors on September 24.
