The Varsity Blues opened their CUFLA season with a 15-3 win against Laurentian Univerity on Sunday (Sept. 11) afternoon in Sudbury, Ont.
The Blues dictated the play from the beginning, building a 3-0 lead after the first, leading 6-2 at the half, 11-2 after three, before ending with the decisive victory.Â
The offense was led by captain Aidan Guld, who was drafted by the Albany Firewolves of the National Lacrosse League on Saturday night, with two goals and four assists. Four other Blues notched two goals each: George Browne, Christophe McWatt, Neil Bains, and Davis Bottomley.
Declan McPherson, Thomas Dunnett, Eric Diano, Sam Gaskin, and CJ Sarvinis rounded out the scoring with one goal each.
Although not showing up on the scoresheet, the Blues were able to control the ball and pace of the game with strong defensive play and a dominating performance at the faceoff from first year Dylan Doucette.
UP NEXT: The Blues host Western on Sunday, September 18th at 7:30 for their home opener at Varsity Stadium.
