The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team won in overtime, 70-64 over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Sunday, March 6 at the Goldring Centre for High-Performance Sport.
With the win, the Blues move into a tie with the Ridgebacks for seventh place in the OUA East Division, with a 2-11 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Second-year guard Lauren Boers recorded a career-high 22-points on the night. The Milton, Ontario native played 40-minutes, going 4-for-10 from beyond the arc and 8-for-18 from the field. On the boards, Boers played an aggressive game securing seven rebounds in the win.Â
Two other Blues recorded double-digit points on the night. First-year forward Jada Poon Tip tallied 12-points, seven rebounds and one assist, while third-year guard Ellen Ougrinov had 10-points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal.
The Blues played a strong end-to-end game against the Ridgebacks. Although down by one through the first (16-15) and second quarter (29-28), the Blues pulled ahead in the third, up 47-37. Through fourth-quarter, the Ridgebacks would battle back tying it up 57-57 by the end of regulation time. In overtime, the Blues pulled away securing the 70-64 win over Ridgebacks .
The Ridgebacks were led by second-year forward, Vanessa Budimunda. Budimunda recorded 17-points, 13-rebounds, one assist and one steal in their loss.
