The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team downed the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, 90-81, on Friday, December 2
, in Oshawa, Ont.
With the win, the Blues hold the top spot in the OUA Central Division with an 8-1 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues' struggled in the opening quarter, trailing the Ridgebacks 28-16. Battling back in the second quarter, the Blues outscored the Ridgebacks 25-9 to lead 41-37 at halftime. Toronto piled on the pressure in the third and fourth quarters to down the Ridgebacks 90-81.
Third-year guard Callum Baker led the Blues team to victory, finishing the night with 29 points. The Flagler Saints transfer added five rebounds and five assists in the win. First-year forward, Noah Ngamba and fellow forward Somachi Agbapu both recorded 14 points on the night. Ngamba had three rebounds and one assist while Agbapu added two rebounds and one assist.
Third-year guard Inaki Alvarez was also crucial to the Blues contributing 12 points. Alvarez, with a solid stat line, added six rebounds, eight assists, and three steals.
Ontario Tech was led by Jayden Coke who had a game-high 30 points. Coke finished the night with four assists and two steals.
UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to action on Saturday, December 3, when they face off against the Queen's Gaels. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. in Kingston.
