The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team beat the TMU Bold 57-56 on Wednesday (Nov. 9) night at Goldring Centre
With their second straight win, the Blues are tied for first place in the OUA Central Division, with a 2-1 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED: A tight battle between the Blues and Bold left the teams tied at 19 after the first quarter. The Bold made a push in the second quarter, leaving with a four-point lead (39-35). Defence was focal for the Blues in the third quarter, holding the defending national champions to five points and gaining the lead (49-44). Despite a back-and-forth fourth quarter, the Blues would finish the game with a one-point lead to beat the Bold 57-56.
Third-year guard Lauren Boers led the way for the Blues with 13 points, along with two rebounds in the win.
Second-year guard Faith Joseph's 12-point and five rebounds were integral for the Blues in the victory.
TMU was led by forward Rachel Farwell who recorded 18 points, four rebounds and four blocks.
UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to action Saturday, November 12 when they face off against the Laurier Golden Hawks at the Goldring Centre. Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m.
