The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team beat the Toronto Metropolitan Bold 61-57 on Saturday, November 5
th at Mattamy Athletic Centre.
With their first win of the season, the Blues now sit in second place in the OUA Central Division, with a 1-1 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Defence was on full display through the first quarter leaving the Blues and Bold deadlocked 10-10. By the half, the Blues were up 22-21, only for the Bold to take a 42-41 lead through the third quarter . With a late surge, the Blues battled back and downed their cross-town rivals 61-57.
Second-year forward Jada Poon Tip led the Blues, with 13-points. The Toronto, Ont. native also recorded five rebounds and two steals in the win.
Second-year forward, Sabrina Nero's standout performance saw the political science major tally nine rebounds, seven points and two steals. Third-year guard Lauren Boers rounded out the Blues stat leaders, racking up eight points and two rebounds.
The Bold were led by fourth-year forward, Rachel Farwell who recorded 17-points, eight rebounds, four steals and four assists.
UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to action Wednesday, November 9 when they face off against the TMU Bold at the Goldring Centre. Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m.
