BLUES DROP RIDGEBACKS, MOVE BACK INTO FIRST PLACE IN THE OUA EAST

Box Score The Varsity Blues women's hockey team won 2-1 against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Friday, November 25th in Oshawa, Ont.

With the win, the Blues move back into first-place in the OUA East division with an 8-2 record and 24 points.

WHAT HAPPENED:  A Blues dominated first period saw the Toronto-based team open the scoring in the 14th minute of play. Following a scrum in front of the net, Toronto's second year stand out Aili McKeown buried first-year centre Kaitlyn McKnight's rebound to put the Blues up by one.

Sustaining their offensive dominance, the Blues outshot the Ridgebacks 14-7 through the second period. However, it wasn't until the final minute of that period that the Blues we're able to break Ridgebacks netminder, Zoe McGee. Making the most of a powerplay, second-year defenceman Emma Potter found fellow defenceman Francesca Monte at the top of the faceoff circle who extended the Blues lead to 2-0.

The Ridgeback were able to get one back in the third period by way of Julia Jackson, but ultimately fell short of the comeback.

Fifth-year goaltender Madeline Albert faced 14 shots in the contest, saving 13 of them.

UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to action on Saturday, November 26 when they face off against the Waterloo Warriors. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at Varsity Arena.
