ROOKIES SHINE AS BLUES DROP CROSSTOWN RIVALS

Box Score The Varsity Blues women's hockey team won 3-0 against the York Lions on Saturday, November 19th at Varsity Arena.

With the win, the Blues hold their first-place spot in the OUA East division with a 7-2 record and 21 points.

WHAT HAPPENED:  After a scoreless first period, Blues first-year forward Isabella Greco combined with second-year forward Abby Howland to break the deadlock. With a scrum igniting in front of the crease, Greco's poke check slid the puck past York netminder Emma Wedgewood.

With ten minutes remaining in the second period, Blues rookie forward Emma Elders extended the Blues lead to two. The Cold Stream, B.C. native went top corner immediately following a York inflicted faceoff. The Lions struck back just five minutes later to narrow the Blues to a 2-1 lead.

Outshooting the Lions 18-11 through the game, the Blues held on to their 2-1 lead to secure the win over their cross-town rivals.

Fifth-year goaltender Madeline Albert faced 11 shots in the contest, saving 10 of them.

UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to action Friday, November 25 when they faceoff against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in Whitby. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
