BOTH BLUES TEAMS SECURE SPOTS IN OUA FINALS

Both the Varsity Blues men's and women's tennis teams will play for OUA gold on Sunday following their respective semifinal victories Saturday afternoon at the Mayfair Club – East.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Without dropping a single match, the Varsity Blues women's crew continued their search for back-to-back OUA championships with a 7-0 victory over the McMaster Marauders.

Losing just a total of eight games throughout the entire semifinal, the Blues were dominant behind the likes of Winnie Choi, Pia Jhattu, Andrea Kuntjoro and Janet Pham who all won two matches during the day, as they competed in both singles and doubles play.

The men's team meanwhile faced a bit more resistance from their opponent, the host York Lions, however, in the end they were still able to pull away comfortably with a 5-2 win. For the Blues though, they were in some trouble during doubles play. York won the first two doubles matches, but fortunately for Toronto, the team of Arden D'Aniello and Kevin Wong were able to pull through in their doubles match, winning 8-7. It was then in singles play where the Blues turned up the heat. Winning five of the six matches, the Blues were able to pull away from York and secure their ticket to the OUA final.

UP NEXT: Both the men's and women's team will square off for an OUA banner on Sunday. The women's team will hit the court first at 1:30 p.m. when they take on the Western Mustangs. After that match, the men's team will take to the court looking for OUA gold. Playing at 3:00 p.m., they will also take on Western.
