The Toronto Varsity Blues season came to an end Saturday night in St. Catharines, Ont., as the Blues fell 8-5 to the Brock Badgers in a Baggataway Cup play-in game.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After the Badgers took an early 1-0 lead in the opening minute, the Blues responded four minutes later on a goal from Declan McPherson.
However, off the ensuing draw, the Badgers were quickly able to regain their lead going up 2-1. Wasting no time themselves, the Blues came right back getting a goal from George Browne to tie the game 2-2.
Going back and forth, the home side reestablished their lead going up 3-2, which they would hold into the second quarter.
Just over a minute into the quarter, Browne tallied his second goal of the game, as Toronto pulled even for the third time in the contest.
Unfortunately for Toronto, the see-saw trend continued as Brock once again went out in front and this time snuck in another goal prior to halftime taking the first two-goal lead of the night.
With momentum on their side, the Badgers would continue to roll, tacking on two more goals in the third quarter to take a 7-3 lead into the final frame.
Determined to keep their season alive, the Blues pulled back within two thanks to back-to-back goals from Alex Acosta. However, after a Brock time-out, the Badgers would go on to score the last goal of the contest to win 8-5.
The Badgers will now advance to the Baggataway Cup.
