Box Score The Varsity Blues women's hockey team won 4-1 over the TMU Bold on Friday (Oct. 28) night at Mattamy Athletic Centre.
With the win, the Blues improve their record to 2-1, holding their third-place position in the OUA East division.
WHAT HAPPENED: Goaltending set the tone in the first period. Despite the Bold and Blues recording eight and seven shots respectively, both Blues goalie, Erica Fryer and TMU goalie Jayden Lawson made key saves for their respective teams to leave the first period scoreless.
Six minutes into the second period, the Blues opened the scoring on the power play through third-year centre Lauren MacDonnell.
Second-year centre Abby Howland doubled the Blues lead just six minutes later, making the most of second-year forward Aili McKeown's down ice pass.
The Blues continued their dominance into the third-period. First-year centre Kaitlyn McKnight scored her first career OUA goal six minutes into the third, but Bold forward Erika Crouse answered with a goal eight minutes remaining in the period.
In the final minute of the third period, McKeown scored an empty net goal to secure the Blues the 4-1 win.
UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to action Saturday, October 29th when they faceoff against the York Lions. Puck drop is set for 2:15 p.m.
