The Varsity Blues women's basketball team beat the Laurier Golden Hawks 64-60 in an exhibition game on Friday (Oct. 28) night at Goldring Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED:Â After a back and forth first quarter, the Golden Hawks squeaked out with a one-point lead (17-16). The Blues would fight back in the second, but Laurier would hold the lead heading into the second half (27-24). Despite the Golden Hawks gaining a 10-point lead early in the third, the Blues clawed back to take a 49-46 lead at the end. The Blues would continue to lead through the fourth quarter to take the game 64-60.

The Blues were led by third-year guard Lauren Boers who finished the game with 19 points, and four rebounds. Just behind here was forward Thuraya Abdul Hamid who recorded 13 points and five rebounds.Â

Second-year and fourth-year guards Faith Joseph and Ellen Ougrinov finished the game with nine points each. Joseph also recorded eight rebounds and two assists in the Blues win.Â

UP NEXT:Â The Blues start their 2022 OUA season on November 4 against the Brock Badgers at Goldring Centre. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
