The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's rugby team fell to the Trent Excalibur 26-19 at Varsity Stadium on Saturday, October 22.
With the loss, the Blues end their 2022 campaign with a record of 0-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED: A back-and-fourth match saw Toronto and Trent exchanges scores from whistle to whistle.
The Excalibur opened the scoring in the fourth minute by way of a try and followed through with their conversion to hold 7-0 lead. The Blues acted swiftly responding with a try of their own by second-year Jackey Kuang, while fellow second-year Tyler Lane sealed the conversion.
Trent would take a 14-7 lead heading into halftime after adding a try and a conversion in the 32
nd minute.
The Blues once again responded, as Joey Ficocelli's try and Lanes conversion, tied things up at 14-14 in the 43
rd minute. The Excalibur went on to score back-to-back trys to secure a 26-14 lead.
The Blues offence would see a late surge through second-year Gianpaolo Fortino. The Woodbridge, Ont. native's try in the 75
th minute would pull the Blues within striking distance. However, despite the Blues dominating the Excalibur offensively, the Peterborough-based team managed to hold on to secure a 26-19 victory.
