The University of Toronto Varsity Blues Women's basketball team battled hard in their home opener Friday, November 26 coming up short 81-51 to the No.7 Ottawa Gee Gees at Goldring Centre.

TORONTO STATS: The Blues got off to a slow start, down 21-13 by the end of the first. Although the Blues picked up momentum at the start of the second, the Ottawa Gee Gees pulled away leaving the Blues down 39-25 at the half. By the end of the game, Ottawa secured the win, extending their lead in the fourth to outscore the Blues 81-51.
 

First-year forward Jada Poon-Tip led the Blues racking up 9 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists on home opening night.
 

Third-year guard Ellen Ougrinov also had a solid performance, putting up 8 points on the night, and led the team with 4 assists, while Nicole Chateau came up with 5 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.
 

UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action tomorrow at Goldring Centre in a rematch against the Ottawa Gee Gees. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
