The host University of Toronto Varsity Blues are in control of their own fate as Day 1 of the OUA tennis regional qualifier wrapped up on Saturday night at Mayfair Club East.
 
U of T will look to solidify their spot in next week's OUA final as they wrap up the qualifier versus the York Lions tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m.
 
The Waterloo Warriors earned a 5-2 victory over the York Lions in the first match of the day. Warriors rookie Jana Llorin won the No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-4 over York's Tiffany Showraki and teamed up with Evi Zafris to take the No. 1 doubles match, 8-6. Waterloo's Maddie Alexander also earned two victories in the No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles matches. Rida Khan and Lobna Hassan garnered York's lone points of the match in the No. 2 and No. 4 singles games, respectively.
 
The host Blues would go on to spoil a Waterloo sweep with a dominant 6-1 victory on Saturday evening. Winnie Choi led the way for U of T with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 spot, while also pairing up with Claudia Poluga to take the No. 1 doubles match 8-3.
