NO. 2 BLUES CLINCH PLAYOFF BERTH

The No. 2 nationally-ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team defeated the No. 3 York Lions 2-1 on Friday night (Oct. 8) at York University.

With the win, the Blues clinch a playoff berth and sit in first place in the OUA East division with a 4-0-1 record with three games remaining.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sam McCrory opened the scoring with her league-leading sixth goal of the season late in the first quarter. Rookie midfielder McKinley Kennedy put the Blues up by two midway through the second quarter; however, York's Russem Thind found the back of the net five minutes later.

The 2-1 halftime advantage would survive a scoreless second half as the Blues came away with the road victory.

UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action next Saturday, October 16 as they host the Queen's Gaels twice at Back Campus Fields. Game times are set for 11 a.m., and 3:15 p.m.
