The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team notched two big wins over the Queen's Gaels on Saturday, October 16 at Back Campus.

With the win, the Blues improve to 6-0-1 and clinch first place in the OUA East.

OUA leading scorer Sam McCrory opened the scoring in the sixth minute, followed closely by a goal off a penalty corner by rookie McKinley Kennedy.

Third-year midfielder Rebecca Carvalho put the Blues up by 3-0 in the 19th minute; however, the Gaels got on the board six minutes later as Natasha Standford found the back of the net off a penalty corner.

McCrory netted her second of the game one minute later and the Blues took a 4-1 lead into halftime.

Rookie forward Mia Zurkovic added the lone tally of the second half to round out the scoring.

After a scoreless first three quarters, McCrory broke the deadlock with a goal off a penalty stroke in the 45th minute. Rookie Anne Campbell added an insurance marker two minutes later.

UP NEXT: The Blues wrap up the regular season this Wednesday, October 20 as they travel to take on the York Lions. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
