BLUES EXTEND WIN STREAK TO FIVE

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team defeated the Nipissing Lakers 3-1 on Friday, October 29 in North Bay, Ont.

With the win, the Blues improve to 6-2-1 and remain in third place in the OUA Central division, one point back of the McMaster Marauders (6-1-2).

HOW IT HAPPENED: U of T captain Nikola Stakic opened the scoring in the 15th minute off a penalty kick, while fellow veteran Artem Tesker extended the Blues lead to two in the 36th minute, sending a wide-angled shot past Lakers goalkeeper Ryan Miners. The Blues were up 2-0 at the half.

Rookie striker Kingsley Belele padded the Blues lead in the 64th minute, receiving a nice through ball from Nicholas Castillo before deking through two Lakers defenders and finding the back of the net.

Fourth-year Blues goalkeeper Ben Grondin made one save in the victory.

UP NEXT: The Blues host the Lakers this Sunday, October 31 in their regular-season finale at Varsity Stadium. Playoff positioning will be on the line as the game kicks off at 2:30 p.m.
