The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team recorded their fifth win of the 2021 season downing the Algoma Thunderbirds 3-0 on Sunday, October 25 at Varsity Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â Building off the momentum of yesterday's 2-0 victory over the Thunderbirds, the Blues continued to dominate the team from Sault Ste. Marie in the second-leg of this back-to-back.
The Blue would open the scoring through first-year forward Anne Yeomans' tap-in courtesy of fellow first-year forward Carissa Callaway's cross (8').
Throughout the rest of the half, Yeomans' work down the wing continued to prove vital, setting up fellow first-year forward Hannah Harkin, who buried a Thunderbird deflection for her sixth goal of the season (25').
While the Thunderbirds would prove to be a tougher match in the second-half, out-shooting the Blues 9-6, it was the performance of Harkin that shined through.
Second-half substitute and first-year forward, Jayda Olak's through ball would find Harkin for her second of the match (74'). This goal would mark Harkins third brace of the season and place her second in scoring across the OUA.
Blues fifth-year goalkeeper Levanta Staggolis started the match, saving all three of the shots she faced, before being substituted at halftime for fellow fifth-year goalkeeper, Alanna Richardson. Richardson would go on to save all five of the shots she faced in her debut.
UP NEXT:Â The Blues will play their next game vs. the undefeated Nippising Lakers on Friday, October 29Â in North Bay at 5 p.m.
