The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-1 in pre-season play on Saturday night (Oct. 23) at Varsity Arena.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: After a scoreless first period, the Golden Hawks got on the board first with a goal from Chloe Davidson 236 into the second frame. Their lead didn't' last long though as fourth-year NCAA transfer Céline Frappier found the back of the net just over two minutes later. The two teams were tied 1-1 after 40 minutes of action.
 
Rookie forward Aili McKeown netted the go-ahead goal 6:43 into the third period and veteran Taylor Trussler added some insurance with an empty-netter with eight seconds remaining.
 
First-year goalie Madison Roche made 18 saves, including a penalty shot in the second period, in the win.  
 
UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action this Wednesday, October 27 as they head to Guelph, Ont., to take on the Gryphons in exhibition action. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
