The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team hosts the York Lions in the 51st annual Red & Blue Bowl this Saturday, October 16 at Varsity Stadium.
Â
Kick off is set for 1 p.m. Advance tickets are on sale
here. Proof of vaccination is required. The game will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.
Â
The Blues will be honouring the late Nick Volpe, creator of the Argo Cup, in a special halftime ceremony. Toronto holds a 31-19 head-to-head record over York since their first meeting in 1970; however, the Lions have won the last three Argo Cups.
Â
Saturday's showdown is the first of two meetings between the Toronto rivals, with huge playoff implications on the line. Four of five teams make the playoffs in the East, making this season series vital to earning a post-season berth.
Â
U of T sits in fourth place with a 1-2 record and are in possession of the last playoff spot in the OUA East division, while the winless Lions are 0-3 and in fifth place at the midway point of the season. Both teams are coming off narrow losses to their Ottawa counterparts. The Blues fell 27-24 to the Carleton Ravens (2-2) on Friday night, while the Lions dropped a 20-17 decision to the Ottawa Gee-Gees (2-2) on Saturday.
Â
Fifth-year Blues quarterback Clay Sequeira ranks third in the OUA, averaging 261 total yards per game over three games this season. His main target, Will Corby, currently leads all receivers in the province, averaging 101.7 yards per game.Â
Â
Veterans Tolu Ahmed and James Greig lead U of T defensively, averaging 5.3 and 5.8 tackles per game, respectively.
