ALEXANDER JOINS MEN’S HOCKEY NEXT SEASON

The University of Toronto men's hockey program is pleased to announce that 2018-19 OJHL most valuable player Jett Alexander has signed a letter of intent and committed to playing for the Varsity Blues beginning in the 2020-21 season.

"We've watched Jett for a number of seasons, dating back to his 18 year-old season in North York," said Varsity Blues head coach Ryan Medel. "He's had a lot of success throughout his junior career. He's a goalie that brings size, athleticism and the ability to make difficult saves in key situations. He's motivated to continue developing as a goaltender and we look forward to helping him achieve that. His impressive off-ice accomplishments through academics and charitable work should not be overlooked either."

A 6-foot-5 200-pound netminder from Bloomfield, Ont., Alexander spent the majority of his junior career with the North York Rangers in the OJHL before finishing off with the Prince George Spruce Kings in the BCHL in 2019-20.

The 2016-17 first team all-prospect earned 2018-19 first team all-star and OJHL and CJHL goalie of the year honours after leading the league with a 1.67 goals against average and .945 save percentage in 43 games, while also setting the OJHL league record for most shutouts in a season with 10.

Alexander gives back to the community too as highlighted by a Shaw BCHL community hero award for his contributions in the "Saves Challenge." This project raised money for cancer research. For every save he made in October, he donated 25 cents along with collecting money from teammates, coaches, billets and fans.

He will join former Rangers teammates and current U of T players Kyle Clarke and Ross Krieger in the Blue and White this fall.

"Deciding on where I wanted to go to school and play for the next four years was something I had been weighing for the last few months," said Alexander. "It ultimately came down to where I am going to get both the best education and best hockey experience. I had been in contact with the coaching staff for some time and they made it very easy and comfortable for me to make my decision. I'm excited to join such a great culture and hopefully keep building towards winning a championship."

Alexander plans to study social science beginning this fall.

Students who sign a letter of intent and/or commit to Varsity Blues intercollegiate teams will be eligible to play at the University of Toronto provided they are academically admissible and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Universities Application Centre.
