The No. 3 nationally-ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team hosts the No. 8 Nipissing Lakers this Friday, February 7 in our Under Armour Game of the Week at Varsity Arena.
Â
Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. Advance tickets are on saleÂ
here. The game will also be streamed live on OUA.tv
Â
The Blues held a 6-2-0-1 (W-L-OTW-OTL) record in the month of January and sit atop the OUA standings with a 14-4-1-2 record overall. Nipissing (13-5-1-1) sits second in the league and trails Toronto by four point with one game at hand.
Â
The defensive contingent for Toronto has been dominant this season, allowing only 29 goals against in 21 games. This is largely due to the marvelous play between the pipes and the Blues veteran defensive core.
Â
The dynamic duo in the crease of Madeline Albert and Erica Fryer have been lights-out this season. Albert, a third-year humanities major, leads the OUA in goals against average (GAA) and save percentage (SV%) with 0.94 and .960 respectively. Fryer, a second-year kinesiology major is third in the league in GAA with 1.34, fifth in SV% with .940, and tied for second in the OUA with 10 wins.
Â
The U of T blue line has been rock solid coming in to the final stretch of the regular season. Third-year commerce major Gabrielle De Serres has been helping out at both ends of the ice. She leads the Blues and is tied for the league lead among defencemen in points with 16 (6G, 10A) and continues to make plays in the defensive zone.
Â
This is the second of two meetings between the Blues and Lakers this season. The Blues narrowly dropped their first match-up 2-1 in North Bay on November 15.
