BLUES SCORE EARLY TO BEST GAELS

The No. 9 University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team defeated the Queen's Gaels 1-0 in their 2019 home opener on Sunday, September 8 at Varsity Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Blues veteran Koosha Nazemi got taken down in the box early and Toronto was rewarded a penalty kick. Team captain Nikola Stakic capitalized on the opportunity to give Toronto the 1-0 lead in the third minute. The Blues and Gaels continued to battle, playing strong defence on both sides of the field.

Second-year goalkeeper Sebastian Sgarbossa made three saves in the clean sheet victory.

UP NEXT: The Blues take the pitch again on Friday, September 13 at 8:15 p.m., when they kick-off against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at Varsity Stadium.
