FOOTBALL FALLS TO RAVENS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team fell 29-19 to the Carleton Ravens on Saturday, September 28 at MNP Park in Ottawa.

TORONTO STATS: Fourth-year quarterback Clay Sequeira continued to shine, going 22-for-39 for 358 yards and three touchdowns on the day. His favourite target was third-year receiver Will Corby, who caught seven passes for 168 yards and one major.

Fellow standout receiver Nolan Lovegrove made seven receptions for 86 yards and one touchdown, while Michael Lehmann had four catches for 35 yards and one touchdown in the loss.

Fifth-year linebacker Matt Renaud notched a career-high 10 tackles and added two break ups. Damoy Robinson had seven tackles, while Daniel Solaroli notched six.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Ravens got out to an early 14-0 lead, scoring on their first two possessions. The Blues got on the board midway through the second quarter when Sequeira connected an 18-yard pass with Lovegrove. Toronto was down 16-7 at halftime.

The Ravens extended their lead with a field goal in the third quarter and a one-yard rushing major with 3:30 remaining in the game. The Blues offence ignited, however, as Sequeira found Corby for a 54-yard touchdown reception to bring the game back within 13 (26-13). After Carleton added another field goal, Sequeira capped off the game with a three-yard passing major to Lehmann.

UP NEXT: The Blues return home to take on the McMaster Marauders next Saturday, October 5 at Varsity Stadium. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. Advance tickets are on sale at varsityblues.ca/tickets.
