BOX SCORE
The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team shutout the Western Mustangs 3-0 in Game 1 of the Old Four Tournament on Friday afternoon (Sept. 20) at Varsity Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After a scoreless first period, the Blues scored two goals in the second frame within two minutes of each other. Mackenzie MacDonald netted the first and Tayler Trussler buried the second.
Western fought back hard, taking 21 shots in the last two frames, but second-year goalie Erica Fryer stopped everything they were throwing at her. Mathilde De Serres sniped Toronto's final goal late in the third to secure the victory.
Fryer records a 26 save shutout in her first start on the preseason.
UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues continue the Old Four Tournament tomorrow (Sept. 21) in London.
