BLUES FALL TO BADGERS

After winning the season opener against Laurentian, the Varsity Blues took on the Brock Badgers at Varsity Stadium on Saturday, September 14.

"Brock is perennially one of the top three teams in the league and we were eager to see how we would stack up against them." said Varsity Blues head coach Joe Nizich.

Brock showed again that they are one of the top teams as they came away with a 16-4 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Badgers opened the scoring early and took advantage of too many Toronto turnovers to score the first nine goals of the game.  While the Toronto defence played well, they wore down from the sustained Brock pressure and extended time playing in the Blues defensive end of the field.  The score after the first quarter was 4-0 for Brock, which they extended to 9-0 at the half.

Toronto finally got on the board in the third quarter on a goal by middie Aidan Guld, assisted by David Berta.  The Badgers scored twice in the frame to lead 11-1 after three quarters.

The Blues offence finally came to life in the fourth quarter as they took advantage of a number of Brock penalties.  Middie Alex Emerson (assist Jason Barnable), attack Darren Elliott (assist AJ Masson) and Barnable, unassisted, scored Toronto's goals.  Brock scored another five times to round out the win.

"One bright spot we can take away from the game was the play of Kaden Jackson on the draws.  Brock has one of the top draw men in the league and Kaden did a great job against him." said Nizich.

UP NEXT: The Blues next game is against Western University in London on Friday night, September 20.
