BLUES IN PLAYOFF RACE DESPITE LOSS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team dropped a 71-63 decision to Queen's Gaels on Friday (Feb. 15) night at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

TORONTO STATS: Fourth-year wing Nikola Paradina dropped a team-high 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while sophomore Evan Shadkami recorded 12 points, five assists, two steals and one block.

Fourth-year guard Christopher Barrett tallied nine points and added two assists. Senior Daniel Johansson tallied eight points, a team-high nine rebounds and two steals on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues and Gaels went back-and-forth from the tip off. The score reflected it with Queen's up 15-13 after the opening quarter. The second frame was all defence with both squads shooting under 36 percent from the field. Queen's was up 28-22 at halftime.

Paradina recorded four of his 12 third quarter points to help spark a 9-2 run out of the break to give the Blues the 31-30 lead early on. The Gaels responded pushing their advantage to 49-44 after three quarters. Queen's continued the pressure starting the fourth on an 11-3 run to put it out of reach.


UP NEXT: In the final game of the regular season, the Blues host the York Lions tomorrow (Feb. 16) night in a do-or-die for both teams. The two Toronto rivals are tied for the final playoff spot in the OUA East division with the winner qualifying. Tip off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
