The University of Toronto Varsity Blues will be battling for their 13th provincial title in the past 18 years as they head to London, Ont., for the 2019 OUA men's water polo championship, November 29-December 1, hosted by the Western Mustangs.
Â
The Blues have had an another impressive 2019 season, going a perfect 8-0Â against OUA competition, while outscoring their opponents 105-21 in the process.
Toronto has won the last three OUA titles, and four of the past five. Their closest match of the season came against the Carleton Ravens at the Queen's Invitational three weeks ago, where the Blues came out on top, 8-6. The Blues and Ravens have met in seven of the last eight OUA championship gold-medal matches, with the Blues holding a 4-3 advantage.
With a relatively young roster, the Blues will rely on the veteran leadership of fourth-year utility Stefan Mitic, as well as third-year standouts Andrei Velasevic, Harrison Young and Richard Laurie to lead the way this weekend.
Â
As the No. 1 seed, U of T receives a first-round bye and will face the winner of McMaster/Western in semi-final action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The championship will wrap up with the gold-medal game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
